We have planned our new projects

As part of our first general meeting which took place on 5 March 2016, we brainstormed new project ideas and discussed them with the Tichakunda Management during a visit later that month. After further enhancement and prioritization, we have decided on these new projects:

1. Mattresses for napping

At the moment the preschool children take their afternoon nap on the hard and cold bare floor with just a few blankets as underlay. We want to provide enough mattresses for each classroom so all children can sleep comfortably.

2. Rocketstove for the orphans

The first rocketstove which we built in the autumn of 2015 for the preschool kitchen was an experiment since nobody knew if it would work or not. About half a year later it is well-tried! 60% of the firewood can be saved every day and cooking on it has proved to be a lot easier and more comfortable than at an open fire.

Since the 36 orphans, which have found a new home in Tichakunda, still cook at an open fire, we want to build them their own rocketstove.

3. Extension of the preschool kitchen’s rocketstove

The rocketstove is a huge success. However, in order to test the system, we initially decided to incorporate only one stove top. This means that the meals for 380 children are being cooked one dish at a time: at least two big pots of sadza (corn mash), vegetables and water. To make it possible to cook all these at the same time, we want to extend the existing rocketstove by further stove tops.
