Support for sowing (2015)

Tichakunda Welfare Centre (Hatcliffe, Zimbabwe)

1.5 tons of cornflour are necessary to provide the pupils as well as the 36 orphans currently living at Tichakunda with one warm meal per day. A third of this amount is being cultivated by the volunteers of Tichakunda on an annual basis. This year the seeds and fertilizer had already been donated. However, in order to sow the seeds, nine hectares of arable land had to be ploughed. We were able to pay a farmer to do so with his tractor. Afterwards, big and small helped with sowing.
In addition to this, we decided to try the cultivation of a seeds-fixed kind of corn which we brought with us from Germany. Should the corn prosper, seeds for the following year could be won from the harvested corn in the future.
