Maismehl ist aus den Küchen Simbabwes nicht wegzudenken. Es ist Grundnahrungsmittel und Zutat für den Maisbrei „Sadza“, der fast täglich auf dem Speiseplan steht. Das Maismehl aus dem Supermarkt ist teuer. Wer kann, baut Mais selbst an. Dieser muss jedoch gemahlen werden. Außerdem ist es günstiger, Mais im Ganzen zu kaufen und in einer Maismühle mahlen zu lassen. Es gibt also Bedarf an Maismühlen in Simbabwe.
Wir haben als eigene Einkommensquelle für Tichakunda eine Maismühle organisiert und ein entsprechendes Gebäude gebaut. In diesem Teil von Hatcliffe Extension müssen die Menschen zum Teil kilometerweit zur nächsten Mühle laufen. Dieses Projekt soll auch Starthilfe ins Arbeitsleben sein. Hier arbeitet einer der jungen Erwachsenen, der im Waisenhaus groß geworden ist.
